Boilermate 2000 No Hot Water

I was called by one of our customers because she had no hot water, and running a hair styling business from home it was urgent. I visited to find a Glowworm Ultimate and Boilermate 2000 cylinder. The lady had tried to put the electrical boost function on the cylinder but was still not getting any hot water.

I looked inside the cover of the Boilermate 2000 cylinder and could see that the display on the PCB was blank, although two of the green LEDs were lit and two of the pumps were running. Pushing the little buttons on the PCB to toggle through the displays of the circuit board was not having any effect. For some reason the PCB had failed and was no demanding heat from the boiler or operating the boiler pump. There was no GT155 PCB in stock locally or available next day from our suppliers and had to be ordered for the following week.

I looked into the electrical side of the Boilermate Cylinder and could see that the immersion heater had been wired up, and that there was wiring to the cylinder for the electrical side. However, the fuses were pulled out and secured out with a cable tie and the electrical side had never been commisioned at installation. I advised the customer to contact and electrician to check the electrics which got the hot water heating again temporarily until I was able to return with a new PCB.

  1. Hi Shaz,

Just having similar issue. 2 weeks ago the acb/pcb failed after hot/cold water then errors on the sensors. I replaced all 3 sensors, store GT147 and the 2 GT153 sensors then after no luck I replaced the acb/pcb. Tonight exactly the same problem has happened after 2 weeks trouble free? Would be interested to see how you get on, just before ours failed completely the slightest pressure on the acb/pcb made it work? Maybe the acb/pcb has failed again but why? Going to return it tomorrow. Steve

  2. Hi Steve,

Sounds like a poor connection or a dry joint on the PCB possibly. It's been a few weeks since I replaced the PCB so fingers crossed! Let me know how you get on.

  3. Hi Shaz,

Thanks for the reply, good news I am getting the abc/pcb replaced tomorrow. I am a bit worried about fitting it though just in case there is an underlying problem, would anything cause this? 1 part of the cab/pcb does make a buzzing now ( the brown relay? Box on the right side half way up ) but nothing works as it shouus but with jumper 5 in everything tests ok. When scrolling the display store sensor says error, PHE sensor says error and DHW sensor reads water temperature which today is 18 degrees. :-(

    Will keep you updated.

  4. Hi Shaz,

Fixed it! I think the DHW sensor was faulty initially it was really corroded. But after fitting new sensors still no good so new pcb was fitted then everything worked for a week. Just traced it to a poor connection in the sensor wiring block at the top of the pcb. As the store and PHE sensor share the same connections if 1 has a faulty connection then the pcb will show an error for both and stop the system working. Connections now fixed and system working. Steve
